History of OnePlus

Avoid oneplus nord

Oneplus initially used CynogenOS. However, they later had to shift to their exclusive OxygenOS as Micromax filed a lawsuit claiming their exclusivity to import CynogenOS devices in India. OnePlus One was released in 2014 and it was received with a heavy positive response. Presently, OnePlus is one of the top 5 smartphone makers globally.

Recent OnePlus offerings

OnePlus made its name as the “Smartphone underdog” and “Flagship killer”. All the premium flagship devices felt an imminent threat from the #OnePlus devices. However, with the release of OnePlus 7, this trend started shifting. This company shifted its attention towards dominating the premium segment. For instance, the price of their devices began to rise and started to go out of the common man’s reach.

Thus, the consumer base didn’t receive it with good reviews, their sales began dropping. OnePlus dropped from the top smartphone company in India, 2019 to the fourth smartphone company in India, 2020. This company desperately needed something to revive its original position, thus, they felt the need to create another flagship killer.

#OnePlusNord at a glance

OnePlus Nord was the result of a desperate move to gain the losing market. This device is specially targeted to India, China, and the European markets. Some interesting facts are this device isn’t released in the American market and the Indian market gets an exclusive 64gb variant.

At a glance, OnePlus Nord seems to offer budget-oriented hardware installed within the premium looks of the OnePlus 8 outer body. This device has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 756G 5G processor and Adreno 620 GPU under the hood.

Additionally, this device comes in three variants: 6GB/64GB, 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB. OnePlus promises that although the processor might seem to be a let-down compared to their previous offerings, it has been thoroughly optimized for best performance. The device has a beautiful 6.44-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels.

Additionally, it flaunts a #WarpCharge capable 4115 mAh battery. On the rear end, the device has a 48MP Sony IMX586 main sensor with OIS, EIS, f/1.75 aperture along with three secondary sensors of 8MP, 2MP, and 5MP. On the front side, it packs 2MP and 8MP sensors.

Limitations of the OnePlus Nord

The OnePlus Nord indeed checks a lot of boxes when it comes to being a Flagship killer, but it leaves a lot more boxes unchecked. Thus, we are forced to question the actual value for money concept for this device. Let’s take awesome of the questionable aspects of this device

Before we make any comment on the display, we must remember that all OnePlus devices are mostly targeted to gamers. The display of the Nord has an aspect ratio of 20:9. Although this might seem to be brilliant for watching movies, when it comes to gaming, this simply seems too long.

For competitive gaming, you need to have a proper grip on your device to have the best reflex action. The unusual form factor makes it quite difficult to get a hold on the device. So, you might find it uncomfortable to play on it.

Simply speaking, the camera performance of Nord isn’t the best. This is because as long as you use the primary camera, you will capture decent shots but as soon as you move to the other sensors, you will notice a significant drop in quality. Although the camera manages to produce crisp images, it depends a lot on the background lighting. Thus, the optimization of the camera is quite questionable.

OnePlus made a statement that they have customized the SD 756G processor on the Nord. These statements might seem to assure but blandly speaking, it is just not enough. There are many other devices in this price segment that offers raw performance. These devices are capable enough to destroy OnePlus performance.

The OnePlus Nord has beautiful look similar to the premium counterpart OnePlus 8. The looks might seem beautiful but it is sad to say that they don’t hold up to the usage habits of various people. For instance, many surveys suggest that the device is prone to easy scratches and bends under just a little rigid force. So, if you are a commuter then you must think several times before choosing this device as careless usage might result in a dramatic incident with the Nord.

Physical aspects

With the present markets, it’s all about a variety of options. However, Nord has two color options: Blue marble and grey Onyx. The device lacks a temperature sensor and a 3.5mm jack. Additionally, it is one the heavy side as it weighs 184g. All these factors might seem trivial but they add up to something great if you are targeting the competitive sector of the smartphone market.

Conclusive opinion on the reasons to avoid the OnePlus Nord

Considering all the above points, it is safe to conclude that the OnePlus Nord is a missed opportunity. For instance, OnePlus had all the resources and market knowledge to create a great competitive device. However, they threw it under the bus with their desperate hurry. There are various devices in this segment like the Samsung Galaxy A51, Realme X3, and Redmi K20 Pro that can easily brat the Nord. So, be wise and choose the best device for your hard-earned money. And, the first step to that is avoiding the OnePlus Nord.
